Thanks for reading, Matt! It's certainly a scary time, and there's so many ways it can go - but I hope this is the direction that we're working towards!
YouTube is a cesspool and its dominance in children’s media is a cause for major concern. We’ve pretty much banned from our house. There’s some good content but it’s hard to find and curate.
The story of Bluey should be heartening. Bluey is high quality, rewarding entertainment for kids and their families. When my daughter watches it, she’s not a monster after like everything else.
What’s depressing is
Bluey was developed by the ABC and BBC. Meanwhile, public media here in America is under assault.
We need more quality, story-telling content for kids and the current environment is like a hellscape.
Your concerns are SO valid - and it's great to hear a parent POV. Not only is public media being threatened, but so is kids content in general. We're seeing more and more platforms slowly step away and pull back their resources, while simultaneously seeing more and more content being made with the goal of "views" and cracking the algorithm. It's an unfortunate perfect storm.
Loving your insight here. The shift in kids media can be scary, but your focus on creator-driven, vs not seems like a light at the end of the tunnel

I love this point-of-view and agree with it wholeheartedly. Great article!
Thanks Emily! I'm so inspired by you and your work. I'm rooting for Goldie!
Aww, thanks Juliet! ❤️🙏
I find this all pretty depressing from a personal
parenting point of view.
