Introducing...The Kids' Media Book Club!
A resource for creative minds shaping kids lives through media and technology.
One of my special skills is buying new books. I don’t want to bRaG- but I’m really good at wandering through the library stacks, digging through thrift store piles, or spending hours on #BookTok screenshotting the latest releases I want to read. Once the book arrives, I just cannot WAIT to dive right in!!!
(Wrong)
Over the years I’ve collected enough books to open an entire library. There’s an unstable Jenga pile in the corner of my bedroom comprised of books that would be “great to read,” but I “just don’t have the time right now.”
Well, jokes on me (!!!!) because I just got laid off from my dream job at Sesame Street (more on that later…) and now, I have too much time. It’s the perfect opportunity to start working my way through the pile, right?
(Wrong)
I wish I was joking, but I immediately wondered: What other books can I buy!? Surely there has to be a new release! So, I picked up my phone and searched “books for kids media.”
And you know what? There really isn’t a clear answer. Not because there’s nothing out there. But because kids’ media lives at the intersection of SO many fields—education, television, parenting, gaming, toys, tech.
And that’s where the idea for the Kids’ Media Book Club was born. (cue *confetti* !!!!)
For you, it’s a one stop shop for recommendations and resources to get inspired about the future of kids’ media. It’s also a platform to foster and encourage important conversations about the hot topics of our field with your friends, coworkers, and peers.
For me, it’s something to do as I navigate this transition in my career. I’m excited to finally dive into these books and exercise my creative muscles to build something I can call my own.
What is the Kids’ Media Book Club:
A resource for anyone who makes, teaches, parents, researches, writes or is just plain curious about kids’ media, education, and tech.
Each month, there’s a tentpole book. You can read along—or just follow along so you “get the gist”.
Bi-Weekly Newsletters delivered straight to your inbox: content roundups, my (unfiltered) thoughts, and interviews or discussions down the line with folks across the industry.
No commitment, no fees, no pressure— participate as much or as little as you want!
Why now?
Because no one knows what’s going on.
So many of us are navigating career shifts and asking, what do I even do next? While the industry feels uncertain, one thing’s clear: everyone I’ve ever met and worked with throughout my career is deeply passionate about the work we do. Now, more than ever, we need kind, brilliant, creative people to be on the front lines of what kids are consuming. I hope this book club will help remind you why you started working in kids’ media in the first place.
And let’s be honest—Love Island doesn’t premiere for a few more months so I gotta stay busy somehow…
